A Message from the Principal

With Year 11’s final exam fast approaching on Monday, I want to take this opportunity to express how proud I am of the year group.

The resilience and commitment shown has been fantastic to see. I wish them the best of luck in their final few days at Ipswich Academy. On their final day, Monday 15 June, after the morning exam, Year 11s will be invited to the study hub so they can partake in shirt signing with their peers and teachers. Please note that they cannot attend the exam in a signed shirt so if there’s been any preparations on a shirt that a student wants signed, they must bring that in separately to what they will wear in the exam.

On Wednesday 17 June, it’s National Thank a Teacher Day. We will be providing students with the opportunity to send a free card to their teachers whom they would like to thank. Positive feedback is nice for the students and I have made a conscious effort to place expectations on staff that positive contact goes home but it would be lovely for them to receive a thank you card from anyone from our school community. If any parents/carers/students would like to send a free thank you card, the link to do so is here. I know that any and all cards will be greatly appreciated.

I must take this opportunity to remind the entire school community about our stance on jewellery. We only permit studs in the earlobe and nose, and a watch. We do not permit any other jewellery on the grounds of safety and security. I strongly encourage that you do not permit your child to obtain extra piercings or items of jewellery that for whatever reason cannot be removed. The Academy will not be responsible for any costs incurred by having piercings professionally removed if they are against the school rules.

Soon we will be inviting our new cohort up for their two transition days. These are 24 and 25 June. On the evening of 25 June I will be hosting a presentation to all of the current Year 6 parents who are attending Ipswich Academy from September.

It has been just over a year since I joined the school and there have been some changes and there’ll no doubt be more ahead. One significant change for September is that the school day will now be consistent 8.40-3.10, every day. There is no late finish on a Wednesday from September. Please bear in mind that we will be expecting students to be on site by 8.35 so that they are ready and in their base groups for an 8.40 start. If any parents/carers have students that come to school via public transport, I urge them to explore the timetables closer to the start of the new school year.

Get ready for the school discos in July!

We are excited to announce our upcoming school discos, and we want to see as many students there as possible!

To celebrate the hard work and dedication of our school community, we are offering a significant discount on ticket prices for students who consistently demonstrate excellence in their daily routines.

How to secure a discount

Students can qualify for a reduced ticket price by meeting the following criteria:

  • Perfect attendance and punctuality: attending school every day and arriving at all lessons on time.
  • Positive learning behaviour: consistently showing a great attitude and high engagement during lessons.

We want to reward those who show up and give their best effort every single day. Let’s make these events really memorable!

Useful Tips for Parents/Carers

Safeguarding

Watch for Isolation:

If your teen is spending too much time alone, they might be feeling low or anxious. Encourage time with friends or family and open up a conversation. Keep the school informed so we can offer additional support.

Attendance

Communicate with School Staff:

If your child is struggling with any aspect of school, reach out to their Base Group Teacher or year team. The school is there to support your child and can help resolve any problems before they escalate.

Reading/Literacy

Use Everyday Opportunities to Read:

Encourage your child to read recipes, road signs, or instructions for games. Real-world reading boosts their skills and shows them the value of literacy in daily life.
