A Message from the Principal
Another week has passed at Ipswich Academy and it’s another week where I feel incredibly proud to be the Principal of this fantastic school.
We have made significant progress in my short time here and I continue to look forward to continuing to work with this excellent community.
I have noticed that some students are arriving after 8.37am. Please remind your child of the importance of arriving on time. Whilst they should be in their Base Group at 8.40am it’s important that all students are on site by 8.37am so that they are ready for the day and do not get a late mark. Punctuality is a skill that they’ll need to take with them to their next place of study and to their employment.
To the parents/carers of year 8, I look forward to welcoming you at our year 8 show my work event next Thursday. I am proud to offer these types of events to give parents/carers the chance to come and see the work that their child(ren) have produced so far this year. I am sure you will be incredibly proud.
Please note that aerosol sprays are not allowed to be brought onto the school site by students. This is due to some members of staff and students having breathing difficulties which are affected by the spraying of these. If students wish to bring in deodorants, these must be a roll-on.
Timing of The School Day Consultation
As a reminder, a consultation period is open regarding the timings of the school day. Currently, the school runs a period 6 on Wednesdays from 3pm-4pm. In the proposal the 4pm finish would end but to make up the required time it means that school will finish at 3.10pm every day. This brings consistency to the school day as it will be 8.40am-3.10pm, every day.
There would be no change to our curriculum offer and key stage four students would still have four option subjects. If you would like to comment on this proposal, please email info@ipswichacademy.org.uk. Please put Response to timing of the school day consultation as the subject of the email. Please respond to the consultation, if you would like to, by Friday 29 January. This would start at the start of the new academic year in September 2026.
Upcoming Events
Year 8 Show my Work evening
Thursday 29 January 2026 from 4pm to 6pm. The aim of this evening is to be informal and relaxed. This is not a formal parents’ evening for specific academic reports, but rather a chance to put faces to names and establish open lines of communication
Useful Tips for Parents/Carers
Safeguarding
Notice Changes in Appearance:
A sudden change in appearance or lack of self-care might signal your child is struggling with something. Ask them if there’s anything on their mind and offer your support. Let the school know so we can offer further guidance
Attendance
Help Them Stay Organised:
Assist your child with keeping track of their homework, projects, and exams. Being organised reduces stress and helps them avoid missing school due to feeling overwhelmed.
Reading/Literacy
Set Realistic Reading Goals:
Help your child set small, achievable reading goals, such as finishing a book in a week. Meeting these goals gives them a sense of accomplishment and keeps them motivated.
