A Message from the Principal

Happy New Year! It’s great to see all the students back in school and settling back into their learning. It was great to see our year 11 parents and carers come in for their parents/carer evening on Thursday and hopefully these discussions will help support the students in the run up to their next round of mocks that begin in February.

Timing of The School Day Consultation

A consultation period is open regarding the timings of the school day. Currently, the school runs a period 6 on Wednesdays from 3pm-4pm. In the proposal the 4pm finish would end but to make up the required time it means that school will finish at 3.10pm every day. This brings consistency to the school day as it will be 8.40am-3.10pm, every day. There would be no change to our curriculum offer and key stage four students would still have four option subjects.

If you would like to comment on this proposal, please email info@ipswichacademy.org.uk. Please put Response to timing of the school day consultation as the subject of the email. Please respond to the consultation, if you would like to, by Friday 29 January. This would start at the start of the new academic year in September 2026.

School is where we meet friends, learn and have fun.

Year 8 Show my Work evening

Useful Tips for Parents/Carers

Safeguarding

Watch for Risky Behaviour:

If your teenager is breaking rules or acting recklessly, they might be looking for help in their own way. Talk to them about making safer choices and understanding the consequences. Inform the school so we can work together to support them.

Attendance

Talk About Attendance Targets:

Explain the school’s attendance expectations and how regular attendance is linked to their success. Share any school reports with your child to show their attendance progress.

Reading/Literacy

Introduce New Words Weekly:

Pick a few new words each week to introduce to your child, using them in sentences throughout the week. This will help them learn and remember vocabulary in a fun way.
