October 2023

  • Applications submitted for entry to Ipswich Academy on the Suffolk County Council website. Deadline: 31st October 2023

March 2024

  • Letter 1 to new parents/carers to be welcomed to the school community
  • Transfer Forms sent to Primary Schools to gather up to date information to help staff at Ipswich Academy to make the transition as smooth as possible

May 2024

  • Letter 2 to new parents/carers to provide further information about the transition days
  • The inclusion team, which consists of our SENCO and our learning mentors, meet with staff from every primary school from which a pupil is moving from to learn more about every pupil coming to Ipswich Academy and how we can support them through the transition days
  • Visits take place to primary schools to meet the Year Sixes in person 

June 2024

Transition Week (Induction)

  • Year Six pupils will spend  the 26th and 27th of June at Ipswich Academy, to develop a better understanding of the school and how it works.

Our aims for the transition days:

 1. To set the highest expectations for behaviour and conduct

 2. To enable pupils to build relationships with new peers and staff

3. To welcome pupils in a warm, friendly manner

Transition day activities include:

  1. Team building activities with peers in their new Base Group
  2. Tour of the school
  3. Taster Lessons in subjects they will study in Year 7

Thursday 27 June 2024 – Induction Evening 6:00pm

Year Six pupils and their parents and carers are invited to gain vital information about school systems and policies including the student planner, self-directed learning, inclusion etc. Pupils and parents will also meet the Senior Leadership team and the staff who will be supporting pupils throughout the transition into September. They will also provide key information about their specific areas of leadership and address and concerns that you may have about September.

September 2024

  • On their first day, pupils will head to their new Base Groups where they will receive their new timetables and where staff will provide any additional information to help them settle on the first few days.
  • The Senior Leadership team will provide a warm welcome to pupils during an assembly and reiterate expectations for conduct around the school 
  • Staff will also be present during transition periods to help pupils navigate the school if they are lost or worried about where to go.
