Gain your Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while earning a salary with the School Direct Teacher Training course at Ipswich Academy.

Practical experience is vital to becoming an effective teacher so we ensure you spend around 80% of your time in the classroom, observing and working with experienced teachers to deliver a range of lessons to young people in KS3 and KS4.

Most of these these practical sessions will be at Ipswich Academy, however we will make sure you have time at a minimum of one other school so you can expand your range of experiences.

The remaining 20% of the time is spent on professional development sessions, held mainly at Ipswich Academy.

During your training you’ll be paid a minimum of point 1 on the unqualified teacher scale depending on experience. As of October 2019, this is £17,208.

Why train with Paradigm

Paradigm Trust has an extensive track record of delivering high-quality Initial Teacher Training. Last year all our trainees were graded good or better and 90% successfully applied for permanent teaching posts with us this year.

At Paradigm Trust, one of our mottos is “Teach the right things, efficiently.” We know every minute is important with our learners so we never waste time. We take the essentials of every subject and make sure we teach them in the most effective way. We know what works best in the classroom and we want to share that with you.

How to apply for teacher training

To be successful as a teacher you will be a motivated, enthusiastic and inspirational individual. You’ll know that teaching is more than ‘just a job, it’s a chance to make a difference and help children and young people fulfil their potential and be their very best. Experience working with children is preferable, but not essential. You will also need the following:

Degree requirements

  • A first degree at 2:2 or above. If your degree is from a non-UK university you must approach NARIC to gain an equivalence certificate.

GCSE Qualifications

  • GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4 or ‘C’ in English and mathematics

If you are successfully shortlisted, we will observe you teaching a short lesson as part of the interview process so we can assess your teaching potential.
