End of spring term letter

Dear parent/carer,

As we come to the end of another successful term at Ipswich Academy, there are a few updates that I would like to share with you.

The Board of Directors of Paradigm Trust has announced the appointment of Bill Holledge as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Trust.  Bill has been the Chief Operating Officer and acting CEO for the last nine months.

In other news, we have had lots of exciting and inspirational visitors to the academy who have enjoyed working with our students.  Our visitors have included influential local women who celebrated International Women’s Day with our year 10 students, a drama group which delivered a very special day of activities on the holocaust and a patisserie chef who trained our catering students to make the most incredible desserts.  We have taken part in sports fixtures and our Ipswich Academy drummers, iDrum, gave an outstanding performance at Snape Maltings. Please follow us on Twitter @IpswichAcademy where you will find daily updates of the extensive activities which are taking place.

Year 11 students continue to work hard before school, after school, during weekends and holidays.  They will be starting their examinations next term and the whole school community wishes them well.

So that we can continue to maintain high standards of behaviour, we will be further tightening our behaviour procedures after Easter which will include staggered after school detentions.  We had fantastic movie and supper evenings this week to reward the vast majority of students who have behaved well all term; we look forward to a similar reward at the end of next term. Also, I have had the pleasure of issuing a number of Principal’s Awards for exceptional performance and contributions to the academy or community.  If you would like more information on our rewards and behaviour procedures, please contact Abbie Thorrington.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.  I hope that you have a lovely break.

Yours faithfully,

Helen Winn
Principal

Year 9 subject consultation meeting

Appointments are available for you to meet with your child’s teachers on Wednesday 28th March, 4.00pm – 7:00pm.

You are able to book five minute appointment slots using our electronic booking system. This is accessed here: https://parents-booking.co.uk/ipswichacademy

All meetings will take place in the school hall. Booking will be on a first come, first served basis and the booking system is now open. The number of appointments will, initially, be limited to five for each student to ensure that all parents/carers are able to participate. Nearer to the time, if additional appointments are available, we will release these into the booking system and notify you.

In order to login to the system, you will need the following information relating to your child, as held in our database:

  • Child’s first name
  • Child’s surname
  • Child’s date of birth
  • Child’s register class

You will also need to enter the details we have on record for you. If you have recently changed your title or surname, for example, and not informed us, we will be expecting you to login with the details we have on record. The email address you enter is only used to receive a confirmation of your appointment. If the system gives you an error when you login, it will not be the email address that is the problem. If you do not have access to the internet, or experience any problems with using the system, please contact the school and ask to speak with Susan Ring.

Subject teachers will meet with you and your child on an individual basis to provide clear feedback on your child’s learning. You will also have an opportunity to review your child’s exercise books. Students are required to attend, with their parent/carer.

Later on in the year we will be having our year nine options evening. The evening offers the opportunity to discuss the different option choices with subject teachers including subjects which your child may not have studied before. This will allow your child to make an informed decision on which subjects will be most suitable to take for their future prospects.

Colleges, sixth forms, universities, training providers and employers will also be present in the Senior Year Study Zone to give students a flavour of what their future choices might look like. Your child will have a chance to view literature and information as well as experiencing ‘have-a-go’ activities organised by the providers.

We will be in contact before Easter to confirm the date and time for the options evening, as well as outlining the options process for your child.

Many thanks for your ongoing support.
