Letter from our recent Ofsted monitoring inspection
Dear parents and carers,
On 13th September, we had an Ofsted monitoring inspection visit. I have attached the letter which I have received from HMI Adrian Lyons who led the inspection.
Students, staff and parents/carers should be incredibly proud of the comments that are made in the letter. The progress that we have made is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone in our school community.
The letter is overwhelmingly positive so I have extracted some key messages which really stand out.
“Senior leaders and the multi-academy trust (MAT) are taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement in order for the school to become good.”
“Behaviour has been transformed. Your school is a calm place where disruption is rare.”
“Relationships between leaders, staff and pupils ensure a highly productive atmosphere for learning and a positive ethos around the school.”
“A consistent approach to the delivery of lessons is apparent across the school. Year 11 pupils consider this to be one of the major improvements in recent years.”
“You have maintained a broad curriculum at key stage 3 and at key stage 4. A wide range of courses meet the needs and interests of pupils and enable them to achieve well in their chosen options.”

We have had a very positive start to term with students showing a great attitude to their learning. We need to make sure that all students have excellent attendance so that they continue to make rapid progress.

Open Evening for Years 5 and 6
We would like to invite all year 5 and 6 pupils to the Ipswich Academy Open Evening at 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm on Thursday 4th October. It will be a great opportunity for you and your families to see the fantastic things we do at the academy.
I will be making addresses at 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm to welcome you to our school.
Our students and teachers from all departments will be available talk through our curriculum with you and there will be activities for everyone to get involved in.

The essential kit list for year 11 boot camp is below. All year 11 students going have been issued with a paper copy.
Welcome back!
Dear parent/carer,
I hope that everyone has had a good summer break.
We are really looking forward to welcoming back all of our students on Monday 10th September. I would like to extend a special welcome to our new year 7 students and parents/carers. I am sure that they will settle into Ipswich Academy life very quickly!
I would also like to congratulate last year’s year 11 who achieved some fantastic GCSE examination results this year. We wish them all the very best in whatever they decide to do.
Following my letter at the end of last term, I remind you that we will not be allowing students to use their mobile telephones or other devices on site at any time of the school day including breaks and before or after school. If you would like your child to carry a mobile telephone for safety reasons, it should be switched off and placed in their school bag before they enter site in the morning. Any telephones, devices or headphones that are seen or heard will be confiscated until the end of the school day. If a child has a device confiscated more than once in the school year, it will be kept until the end of the week. I have already told the students about this but we will be very clear with them about the rules in their assemblies so that they do not inadvertently use their mobile telephones. I am sure that this decision will have very positive results including students’ improved communication and social skills and a reduction in issues involving social media. Many schools have adopted this approach and have found the benefits to be great.

Congratulations to our 2018 GCSE students!
They have made good progress, in line with national benchmarks, and this is a testament to the extremely hard work of our students and staff, as well as the support of parents/carers and the local community. Well done all!
Results day information
Year 11 results can be picked up between 10am and midday on Thursday 23rd August 2018.
Results must be picked up by the student, otherwise the person picking up the results must have a letter signed by the student and proof of ID.
