Cross country success!

14 students represented the academy in the annual Schools Cross Country Championships held at The Royal Hospital School, Holbrook. Selection to represent the school took place during PE lessons, where all pupils were timed over a 2.5km course as part of their fitness training module.

At the actual event, effort levels from all the students were fantastic, with some students representing the academy for the first time. Top honours go to year 7 students Archie Exworth and Luke Warren, who qualified for the County Championships. Well done to Archie and Luke in particular, and to everyone who took part. Thank you to staff for organising and encouraging.

Train to teach with Paradigm – applications open on 27 October

We offer initial teacher education (primary and secondary, all subject areas) through our salaried School Direct programme. As a trainee teacher you will have access to invaluable school and classroom experience that will equip you with the knowledge, skills and experience you will need to become an excellent class teacher.

This programme is for graduates and career changer graduates wishing to train to become teachers. We are also able to offer parallel, salaried training opportunities for strong candidates (secondary only) who do not have a degree but who can demonstrate clear aptitude and desire to develop a teaching career. We would consider applications for salaried training places from school leavers who have, or are predicted to achieve, strong A levels (or equivalent) and can demonstrate an interest in, and experience of, working with children and young people.

Y11 parent/carer consultation meetings

Y11 is a critical and intense time. It is crucial that students, parents/carers and staff work together closely, from the start, so that achievement is high.

We will be holding a briefing meeting for Y11 students and their parents/carers. In this meeting we will:

  • communicate the minimum grades which your child is required to achieve, and explain the rationale behind this
  • share results from the assessments which students are currently taking
  • issue study guides – so that students are able to revise independently
  • clarify homework arrangements and expectations
  • explain our approach to additional learning sessions.

A personalised invitation letter has been posted to parents/carers, providing details of the session which has been allocated for each student and his/her parents/carers. A generic version of that letter is available here. Students will also be issued a copy of their invitation letter on the morning of Friday 9 October.

If parents/carers are not able to attend the allocated session, there may be limited scope to re-arrange. The possible alternatives are:

  • Monday 19 October, 3-6pm OR 6-9pm
  • Wednesday 21 October, 3-6pm OR 6-9pm.

If you are unable to attend the session allocated, please write to request an alternative time by Wednesday 14 October.
